WILL IT DOLLHOUSE?! Cake dollhouse edition 🎂 When I asked my daughter what she wanted for her birthday and she said a cake dollhouse I was like don’t you mean a dollhouse cake and she said no. A cake dollhouse. There’s only a few days til her bday but of course I’m going to do it! I decided to use a round box for the base, and am thinking of creating two rooms with a birthday party inside soooo I’m cutting the box in half. I also cut a timber round in half to make a base for it.To decorate the rooms inside I’m keeping it really simple and low key - doing wallpaper, built in timber seating, handmade party decor checkered tile on one side and herringbone timber on the other. Easy! Now, the fun bit, to make it look like I real cake I had to decide - I’d seen cake bags and cake boxes and tossed up a fabric or a silicone outside, and in the end settled on piping plaster or silicone onto the cake for an authentic and extremely stressful to apply cake. WILL IT DOLLHOUSE?! cake edition, part 2! I have never ever decorated a cake with piping before (can you tell lol) so even though it looks easy it really wasn’t! The inside of my daughter’s cake dollhouse is pretty much done, so now it’s time for the icing on the… box. I’ve never piped anything in my life, so naturally I decided to pipe grout rosettes onto a dollhouse a mere two days before a birthday. Good thinking! Not stressful at all! I used white grout for the base and first addeed rosettes (is that even what they are called?!) and then tried tinting the grout for colour, but let’s just say the next try looked like… well, not piping. So I took them all off and went again. Second (or is it third lol) time was marginally more successful but still bad. I mean, is it bad or have I just lost perspective?! Cake dollhouse it turning out to be part craft, part meltdown. Cake dollhouse reveal! In this edition of ‘WILL IT DOLLHOUSE?!’ I’m granting my daughter’s birthday wish - she asked for a cake dollhouse for her birthday, and I did it! With the help of lots of blood sweat and plaster it’s finally done and I’m sooooo proud of how it turned out. Frosted in grout with piped rosettes (I’m still traumatised from having to do it four times!), velvet bows and delicious-looking cherries on the outside, it swings open to reveal two miniature birthday party rooms inside. One side has checkerboard floors, wallpaper, garlands and the tiniest birthday cake you’ve ever seen that my daughters made. The other? Built-in seating, little cushions, more garland and teeny tiny presents. This project was equal parts chaotic and delightful, I can’t wait to give it to her!
